New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Netherlands has revealed its 15-member squad for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 encounters, scheduled to take place in Namibia from March 5 to 13. Besides competing in two ODIs against the host nation on March 7 and March 13, the Netherlands will also face Canada on March 5 and March 11.
All matches are set to occur at the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Within the Netherlands squad, Fred Klaassen is poised to participate in his first 50-over game in nearly two years, while Zach Lion-Cachet receives his inaugural ODI call-up.
Notably, Brandon Glover, Shariz Ahmad, and Clayton Floyd have been excluded from the squad, despite their involvement in the recent Dutch bowling camp in Cape Town. “We are eager to commence our first WCL2 fixtures of 2025 in Namibia. The squad we have assembled is well-balanced and can adapt to various conditions and opponents,” stated head coach Ryan Cook.
The Netherlands currently occupies fifth place in the 2024–2026 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 points table, having accumulated 14 points from 12 matches, with a record of seven wins and five losses.
To secure a spot among the top four nations eligible for the global qualifying tournament for the main Men’s ODI World Cup, scheduled to be hosted in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in 2027, the Netherlands must achieve multiple victories during their tour of Namibia.
The team had previously participated in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India, qualifying as the second-best team in the global qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Ultimately, they finished in tenth place in the main tournament, securing two wins, including one against South Africa, and suffering seven defeats.
Netherlands squad: Colin Ackermann, Noah Croes, Bas de Leede, Aryan Dutt, Scott Edwards (captain & wicketkeeper), Viv Kingma, Fred Klaassen, Kyle Klein, Michael Levitt, Zach Lion-Cachet, Teja Nidamanuru, Max O’Dowd, Vikram Singh, Timm van der Gugten, and Paul van Meekeren.
