New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) The prestigious Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol competition has made its grand return to Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi as delegations arrive for this significant event. Spanning over 10 days, this elite continental competition for Rifle and Pistol shooters kicks off on Wednesday, with the final medals set to be awarded on February 13, 2026.
A total of 311 athletes representing 20 countries, including the host nation, India, are vying for 30 sets of medals across junior and senior categories. Additionally, youth events will run in tandem with the main competition.
The host nation has fielded the largest contingent, with 118 athletes, followed by Kazakhstan with 35 athletes. Regional powers such as Korea, Iran, and Japan are also sending strong teams, while competitors from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong are expected to excel.
In a statement prior to the event, NRAI secretary general Pawankumar Singh emphasized the tournament's significance, stating, “This is a pivotal year for Indian Shooting and Asian Shooters, as two major competitions are scheduled later this year, namely the Asian Games and the World Championships, which will offer the first quota places for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
“As such, this marks the start of the international season for shooters across the continent, providing them a platform for early self-evaluation. We extend our warmest welcome to all foreign teams and hope they enjoy their stay in our country. The NRAI has made extensive preparations, aided by the tremendous support from the Sports Authority of India, the Sports Ministry, and the Government of India to ensure a world-class sporting experience,” he added.
While official pre-event training is set for Tuesday, the first day of competitions on Wednesday (Feb 4) will feature four major finals: the men's and women's 10m air pistol, alongside the junior and youth men's 10m air pistol.
