Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has singled out 20-year-old opener Juairiya Ferdous as a player of pivotal importance for the side's ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign, expressing strong confidence in the youngster's ability to deliver at the top of the order when the tournament gets underway.

Speaking after Bangladesh's warm-up match against Ireland at Loughborough University in Leicestershire on 10 June, Nigar was unambiguous about Ferdous' role. 'She is going to be very important for us because she's been a very good touch. She's very young and she's capable of hitting boundaries in the Powerplay as well as after it. We are looking forward to see her the same way she played for us,' the captain said.

Ferdous broke into the Bangladesh senior side earlier this year and has rapidly emerged as one of the country's most exciting batting prospects.

Ferdous Delivers in Warm-Up Fixtures

The young opener backed up her captain's faith with two confident knocks in Loughborough. Against defending champions New Zealand, she struck 26 off 15 deliveries, showcasing her intent from ball one. She then went a step further against Ireland, posting a fluent 50 off 38 balls — a half-century that underlined her composure at the highest level.

Those performances have provided Bangladesh with a timely boost ahead of their tournament opener against the Netherlands on Sunday, particularly given that the side lost both warm-up encounters.

Lessons Taken From Warm-Up Defeats

Despite the back-to-back losses, Nigar maintained that the preparatory games served their intended purpose. 'We played two practice games and I think we have learned so many things from them. We really wanted to take all that positive stuff towards our first game and I guess we have some time to prepare ourselves. We'll talk about and maybe we can work on the practice. So we will take all the good things and are looking forward for the first game,' she said.

Notably, the defeats have not dampened the squad's outlook — a sign of a side focused on process over results in the build-up phase.
