Ollie Robinson Joins England Squad as Replacement for Injured Jordan Cox Ahead of NZ Tests

London, Nov 28 (NationPress) Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Ollie Robinson has been included in the England squad for their current tour of New Zealand, stepping in for the injured Jordan Cox, as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board on Thursday.

Cox suffered a fractured thumb during a warm-up match in Queenstown, leading to his exclusion from the three-match ICC World Test Championship series. Ollie Pope will take on wicketkeeping duties for the opening Test in Christchurch, while regular keeper Jamie Smith is on paternity leave.

Robinson is set to join the team in New Zealand later this week and could make his Test debut as soon as the second Test in Wellington, which begins on December 6.

This is the first time the 25-year-old Robinson has been called up to the senior England squad. He has recently showcased his talent in England's domestic County Championship, boasting a batting average of 48 in 2024 and an impressive 58 in the prior season of 2023. Additionally, he has proven his capabilities behind the stumps with 92 dismissals in the Championship over the last two seasons.

England squad: Ben Stokes (c), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes
