New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has officially announced his readiness to represent Delhi in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra.

Pant’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy was during the 2017-2018 season, and he is expected to travel directly to Rajkot, where the match will commence on January 23.

According to DDCA chief Rohan Jaitley, “Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy game against Saurashtra,” he shared with IANS.

The wicketkeeper-batter had a challenging performance in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, resulting in a 1-3 defeat for India, which ended a decade-long dominance. He scored a total of 255 runs, including one half-century, with an average of 28.33.

Following India’s series loss in Sydney, head coach Gautam Gambhir underscored the necessity for Test players to engage in domestic first-class cricket whenever possible. Pant will not be part of India’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, which begins on January 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Currently, Delhi stands fourth in Group D, accumulating 14 points from five matches.

Additionally, renowned batter Virat Kohli, who last played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy in 2012, has identified 38 prospective players for the remaining two Ranji Trophy matches.

On Tuesday, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams, joined Mumbai's squad for training ahead of the second phase of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, commencing on January 23.

Furthermore, top-order batter Shubman Gill has also made himself available for Punjab's sixth-round Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka. He last participated in the Ranji Trophy in 2022, competing against Madhya Pradesh in the quarterfinals held in Alur.
