Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant sparked controversy on Tuesday, 20 May after using an expletive on national television during his post-match remarks following LSG's seven-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur in IPL 2026. Despite the loss — which ended any remaining play-off hopes for the side — Pant insisted his squad retains full belief in its own quality.

Speaking after the match, Pant was unapologetic about his team's character even as results have not gone their way. 'We are proud as a team regardless of what our situation is right now. The kind of team we have, we know we can win this. Regardless of anything, we are confident enough as a team and as individuals. It hasn't gone our way, and everyone knows that, but that doesn't take away the fact that we are a f***ing good team,' the LSG skipper said.

LSG posted a competitive 220/5 in 20 overs on a batting-friendly surface at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. However, Rajasthan Royals overhauled the target with relative ease, reaching 225/3 in just 19.1 overs. South African batter Donovan Ferreira's late contribution sealed the chase for RR.

Pant acknowledged that LSG may have left runs on the table. 'We could have actually scored five or ten runs more on this kind of wicket when you get that kind of start, and we just couldn't capitalise in the last over,' he said, also crediting Jofra Archer's bowling in the middle and final overs as a key factor.

On the challenge of defending totals on high-scoring surfaces, Pant pointed to the fine margins that define such games. 'On a wicket like this, there is less margin for the bowlers, and having too many suggestions doesn't work out. Sometimes you have to keep a simple plan, keep focusing on one ball at a time, and just try to execute the plan,' he explained.

He also defended the decision to delay Shahbaz Ahmed's introduction into the attack, citing match-up logic against left-handed batters. 'Especially because Rathi was there in the side, so why take a chance on Shahbaz when Rathi is there in the side?' Pant said.

Pant reflected on the role of experience in high-pressure situations, a theme that has followed LSG through a difficult campaign. 'Experience is something you're always going to miss, regardless of whether things go good or bad, because experience can't be earned overnight. It takes years for people to gain that experience, and definitely in pressure situations, that is one thing which keeps you ahead for sure,' he said.
