Partnership Between Akash and Bumrah Boosts Confidence: KL Rahul

Brisbane, Dec 17 (NationPress) India batsman KL Rahul acknowledged the contributions of tailenders Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for their unbroken 39-run partnership at the last wicket, which prevented a follow-on in the third Test against Australia on Tuesday.
The pace bowlers fought valiantly to save India from a precarious position on a rain-affected Day 4 in Brisbane. At stumps, India stood at 252/9, with Akash not out on 27 from 31 balls and Bumrah remaining at 10 runs. India still trails by 193 runs, and the match's outcome hinges on the weather conditions on Wednesday.
"It's incredibly encouraging to see the lower order contributing runs. This is a frequent topic in our discussions, and the bowlers put in significant effort to improve their batting skills. It's uplifting to witness them forming this crucial partnership and avoiding the follow-on, especially with rain disruptions affecting the game. We need to find ways to stay competitive, and Akash and Bumrah managed to do that, ending the day on a positive note for us," stated Rahul, who scored 84 in the match, during the press conference at the close of play.
"I’m pleased they were able to execute some impressive shots during the last half-hour. It was a thrilling contest, and their resilience against the bouncers showcased great spirit. The pitch had significant pace and bounce, so to defend effectively, leave the ball, and play some elegant shots was commendable. This experience will bolster their confidence and greatly uplift our team's morale," he added.
When questioned about the message relayed from the dressing room during the last-wicket partnership, Rahul explained it was focused on avoiding reckless shots and achieving the follow-on target.
"The message was straightforward: accumulate runs without feeling pressured to hit boundaries; singles were available as the field was spread. We encouraged them to remain patient. Before the message, Akash attempted a boundary, so we advised them to settle down and aim for five or six singles to reach the follow-on target," the opening batsman elaborated.
Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were the only Indian batsmen to notch half-centuries in the first innings. The duo also formed a significant 67-run partnership before Rahul was dismissed by Nathan Lyon for 84 in the day’s opening session. Rahul commended Jadeja's vital contribution of 77 runs and expressed confidence in his batting abilities.
"He was exceptional today. He has consistently batted well down the order for us over many years, which is what we expect from Jadeja. He has proven his capability time and again. I’m really pleased that I could partner with him. His timely entry at the crease was crucial, and he successfully added 70-80 runs with the tail, which was pivotal in surpassing the follow-on target and maximizing our score," Rahul shared.
"He made that possible. Jadeja is a seasoned player who understands precisely what he needs to do to score runs for the team at key moments. While his bowling often garners attention, I believe his batting has been equally impressive. He possesses a solid technique, and I enjoy batting alongside him and observing his practice routines. His game plan appears straightforward and well-organized, so I’m thrilled he could step up and deliver for us," Rahul concluded.
