With this victory, Paul dashed the second seed’s dreams of competing in a fourth consecutive championship match at the ATP 250 event in Houston.

"I executed well when it mattered," Paul stated. "That was an amazing match with Big Foe. He’s always been one of the most exciting players to watch. I’m thrilled that we had this contest here."

Paul struck first, winning the opening set 7-5. Tiafoe responded by breaking early in the second set. Serving at 4-3, his rhythm was interrupted by a 90-minute rain delay, but he returned composed, saved a break point, and held strong to take the set, as reported by ATP.

The final set remained tightly contested. Tiafoe broke early but couldn’t maintain it, while Paul surged ahead 4-2 only for Tiafoe to level it at 4-4. Both athletes resisted yielding, leading the match into a tie-break.

Paul led 6-4 in the tie-break before Tiafoe saved two match points to equalize at 6-6, but the fourth seed ultimately steadied himself under pressure in the decisive moments to clinch the match.
