New Delhi, Oct 25 (NationPress) Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has shared insights regarding captain Pat Cummins' recovery from a stress fracture in his back. As Australia prepares for the important Ashes series against England next month, concerns about Cummins' ability to participate have emerged.
Lyon indicated that while it seems challenging for the Aussie captain to take part in the opening Test in Perth, he remains optimistic that Cummins will join the team during the latter part of the series.
“He's been remarkably dedicated. The fact that he has consistently made the trip from the Eastern Suburbs to Silverwater is impressive. His commitment is commendable. He’s doing everything within his power to return to action. As a friend and teammate, I take pride in his determination. He’s setting a strong example and training rigorously. He’s striving to be back on the field,” Lyon expressed during ABC Sport’s commentary while Australia competes against India in the ongoing 3rd ODI.
“I think Perth might be quite tough. To be honest, with only four weeks remaining, it's a tight timeline. However, I still believe he has a significant goal to possibly play in Brisbane or Adelaide. I feel confident we will see him back in action at some point during the series. I've witnessed his hard work and dedication. His skill as a player and professionalism are evident, giving him the best chance to return, which is all we can hope for,” Lyon added.
Currently, Australia is engaged in a white-ball series against India at home, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is. They secured the ODI series by winning the first two matches and are now set to face the reigning T20 champions in the shorter format.
