Mumbai, Aug 15 (NationPress) As India celebrates its 79th Independence Day, players from the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) honor the heroes who have defended our nation by embracing a sport that embodies the country’s heritage, values, and resilience. The league highlights the remarkable journeys of 16 players and four coaches who represent the Services, effectively balancing their dedication to the nation both on the field and at the borders.

On this significant day, Bharat, an all-rounder for the Telugu Titans, remarked, “Kabaddi transcends mere sport; it is woven into our traditions. On Independence Day, we reflect on the bravery, teamwork, and sacrifices of our freedom fighters. This is our way to honor them.”

“It is an immense privilege for me. Sporting the Services jersey symbolizes a commitment to the nation, and competing in the PKL allows me to showcase my skills to the entire country. Each role, in its own right, serves our nation,” he added.

Varinder Singh, a proud member of the Indian Air Force for 17 years and currently the assistant coach for the Gujarat Giants, shared similar feelings. “I take great pride in serving my country. This marks the first time I get to don the Gujarat Giants jersey. It’s an honor, and I cherish the opportunity to engage in two passions close to my heart.”

Further emphasizing how the values instilled in the armed forces influence performance on the mat, he stated, “In the Armed Forces, we cultivate discipline, respect, and teamwork, which are also essential in Kabaddi. We learn to honor our game and uphold a sense of responsibility towards both our nation and our team.”

Reflecting on how his Services background shaped him as a player, Bharat noted, “Both experiences taught me that discipline and dedication are invaluable. The Forces instilled in me the essence of teamwork, which the PKL further solidified. These experiences have molded me into a responsible, focused, and proud Indian.”

Discussing how his military experience enhances his kabaddi performance, Bharat asserted, “The Forces ingrained in me the ability to remain calm under pressure and to make swift decisions. In Kabaddi, I apply that focus to read the game, exhibit aggression in offense, and display fearlessness in defense.”

According to Varinder Singh, Kabaddi has inspired widespread participation from the army, fueling his motivation as he embarks on his debut season as assistant coach. “The number of Services players involved in Kabaddi is remarkable. Even during my coaching in the Air Force, I observe how they fulfill their duties at the border while engaging in the sport. That drives me. We learn a lot from our responsibilities and our gameplay. It’s a fusion of both. We realize that to achieve our goals, we must give our very best,” he concluded.

The Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 is set to commence on August 29 in Vizag, featuring the Telugu Titans facing off against the Tamil Thalaivas in the opening match, followed by the Bengaluru Bulls squaring off against the Puneri Paltan. The league stage will unfold across four cities, including Jaipur, Chennai, and New Delhi.
