New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa shared his profound condolences regarding the untimely demise of US chess grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky. He expressed disbelief that he would no longer see Naroditsky’s chess challenges.
The announcement of Naroditsky’s sudden passing at just 29 years old was made by his family on X through the Charlotte Chess Centre.
"I’m incredibly saddened to learn about Danya’s passing. Every time I logged onto Chess.com, I would see his invitation for a game. It’s hard to fathom that I won’t encounter it again. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones," Praggnanandha conveyed on X.
Naroditsky was discovered deceased at his residence in San Jose, California, earlier this week. While authorities have not disclosed an official cause of death, initial reports suggest no signs of foul play, as stated in a report by Marca.
He earned the FIDE Master title in 2007 and triumphed in the U-12 category of the World Youth Chess Championship. Naroditsky secured second place at the 2010 US Open, became an International Master in 2011, and clinched the US Junior Championship in 2013. That same year, he attained the title of Grandmaster, with a peak FIDE classical rating of 2647, achieved in May 2017.
He authored several chess books, beginning with Mastering Positional Chess, published when he was just 14, having started the project at the age of ten.
Naroditsky was a familiar face as a commentator for major chess events, particularly on Chess.com. Beyond the chessboard, he significantly contributed to promoting chess content online, effectively connecting professional and amateur players.
He also operated popular Twitch and YouTube channels, renowned for his ability to explain the game in a calm and straightforward manner to audiences of varying skill levels. His YouTube channel amassed nearly 500,000 subscribers, while his Twitch stream attracted 340,000 followers.
