Mumbai, Feb 9 (NationPress) The only Indian athlete to advance to the finals of the Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125 Series, Prarthana Thombare, along with her doubles partner Arianne Hartono, is set to face the Russian duo of Elena Pridankina and Amina Anshba at the CCI in Mumbai this Sunday.

Prarthana and Arianne reached the finals in the previous edition as well; however, they experienced a defeat against Dalila Jakupovic and Sabrina Santamaria in straight sets. This time, though, the pair seems more confident as they prepare for the decisive match.

“The journey thus far has mirrored last year’s experience, but the competition has certainly intensified with higher-ranked players. Nevertheless, we have elevated our game and will strive for victory this time,” Prarthana expressed.

The Indo-Dutch duo enjoyed straightforward victories in earlier rounds, yet faced a challenging semifinal. It was a closely contested match against Eden Silva and Anastasia Tikhonova, with the scores tied after two sets. However, in the tie-breaker, Prarthana leveraged her extensive doubles experience to secure a commanding 10-2 win in the final set.

Reflecting on her experience of playing in India, Prarthana remarked, “Ninety percent of our tournaments occur abroad, so competing in front of our home crowd is truly special.”

Arianne and Prarthana have established a remarkable synergy on the court, which is evident in their friendship off the court as well. Arianne commented, “It’s always an honor to be here with her (Prarthana). Being around her is incredibly enjoyable. Every time I visit Mumbai, I feel welcomed and relaxed, largely due to her presence. I’m very thankful for our strong friendship.”

The Mumbai Open 2025 final is scheduled to commence at 5 PM with the doubles match, followed by the singles event starting after 6:30 PM on Sunday.
