Fatorda (Goa), Nov 4 (NationPress) In a winner-takes-all showdown, Punjab FC and Bengaluru FC are set to clash in Group C of the AIFF Super Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda this Wednesday.

Both teams are currently equal on six points and share the same goal difference, making this final group stage encounter pivotal for securing a spot in the semifinals. Should the match end in a draw during regulation time, the group winners will be determined by penalties.

Punjab FC kicked off their group stage with a commanding 3-0 win over Gokulam Kerala FC, courtesy of goals from Nikhil Prabhu, Princeton Rebello, and an own-goal by Gursimrat Singh. They followed this up with another impressive 3-0 victory against Mohammedan SC, thanks to goals from Ninthoinganba Meetei, Samir Zeljkovic, and Manglenthang Kipgen. Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC commenced their campaign with a 2-0 triumph over Mohammedan SC and then executed a 4-0 rout against Gokulam Kerala FC.

In the lead-up to the match, Punjab FC's head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis expressed his pride in the team's performance, stating, “We’ve displayed remarkable character and consistency thus far, and I’m proud of how the boys have performed. Dilmperis has placed his faith in a young Indian core for both matches, with Muhammad Suhail, Ninthoi, and Kipgen excelling in the attack, while captain Nikhil Prabhu and Princeton Rebello lead the midfield. The defense has been comprised solely of Indian players, including Suresh Meetei, Bijoy Varghese, Khaimingthang Lhungdim, and Muhammed Uvais.

New foreign signings, such as Dani Ramirez, Samir Zeljkovic, and Nsungusi Effiong, have made a positive impact in Indian football, although defender Pablo Renan Dos Santos is yet to make his debut. The Shers boast strong bench options, including Pramveer Singh, Leon Augustine, Singamayum Shami, Ricky Shabong, and Vinit Rai, who can be called upon as needed.

Bengaluru FC, too, has been in excellent form, with Sunil Chettri, Ryan Williams, and Vinith Venkatesh finding the back of the net in their last match, while young talent Taorem Kelvin Singh scored in the opening match. The Blues will rely once more on their seasoned players to perform during critical moments against a youthful and dynamic Punjab FC squad.
