Navi Mumbai, Oct 26 (NationPress) The commencement of Match 28 between India and Bangladesh in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup has been postponed due to a brief bout of rain that compelled the ground staff to swiftly cover the pitch at the Dr DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.

The teams had begun their warmup amidst overcast skies, with ominous clouds looming overhead. A light drizzle commenced approximately 15 minutes prior to the toss, leading the players to retreat to the dugout as conditions worsened.

The rain, while short-lived, was sufficient to delay the toss. Ground staff commenced the removal of covers, remaining vigilant under the persistent dark clouds. Though the match may start slightly late, the possibility of a full game remains uncertain.

As the rain resumed, the covers were replaced again, with the central pitch being sheltered.

In other news, India has awarded a debut cap to wicketkeeper batter Uma Chetry, stepping in for Richa Ghosh, who sustained a finger injury during the previous match against New Zealand on October 23.

Uma received her cap from opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana in a brief ceremony before the players sought refuge from another downpour. Although she has previously played several T20Is for India, this will mark her inaugural ODI appearance.

While the semifinal lineup is already confirmed, this match holds significance for pride, with Bangladesh aiming to claim victory against a top-four team, and India striving to fine-tune their strategy ahead of the critical knockout match against Australia on October 30.
