Royal Challengers Bengaluru mentor and batting coach Dinesh Karthik declared his side 'played like champions' after RCB dismantled the Gujarat Titans by 92 runs in Qualifier 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala on Tuesday, 27 May, booking their place in a second consecutive IPL 2026 final.

A Record-Breaking Batting Performance

RCB posted 254/5, the highest total in IPL playoff history, before bowling the Gujarat Titans out for 162. The innings was anchored by captain Rajat Patidar, who blazed an unbeaten 93 off just 39 balls, tearing apart the Titans' bowling attack under pressure.

Karthik singled out Patidar for special praise in his post-match dressing-room address. 'Rajat's innings was incredible. He led from the front in a pressure game and completely took the bowlers apart,' Karthik said.

What Karthik Said in the Dressing Room

'This was a clinical effort, a professional effort,' Karthik told the players. 'A one-versus-two playoff game is always a big game, but we played like champions, and I think we can make it happen that day,' he added, referencing the upcoming IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad.

Karthik also credited the team's collective intent from the first ball. 'The intent from the boys right from the start was outstanding. It started with Venky, Virat, and Dev. As a collective, we maintained the tempo throughout,' he said.

'In big games, sometimes teams take the back foot under pressure. But we made sure we kept pushing forward,' he added.

Kohli's Role in Setting the Tone

Karthik highlighted the influence of Virat Kohli, who reportedly addressed the team before the match with a focus on body language and intensity. 'Virat spoke before the game about making sure our body language stayed strong, and I think it was as good as it has been in the last several weeks. We had the attitude to get them out, and honestly, we almost sealed the game in the power play itself,' Karthik said.

RCB reduced the Gujarat Titans to 51/5 inside the first six overs of the chase, effectively ending the contest early. Rahul Tewatia offered some resistance with a fighting 68, but could not prevent a comprehensive defeat.

Eyes on Ahmedabad Final

Karthik urged the squad to savour the win before refocusing on the title clash. 'We have another big game in four days' time, but first let's enjoy this moment. When we reach Ahmedabad, we'll focus again,' he said.

RCB's second successive IPL final appearance underlines a consistency that has eluded the franchise for much of its history, and Sunday's clash in Ahmedabad will be their chance to end that wait for a maiden title.
