IPL 2026: Reddy Delivers Long-Awaited Match-Winning Performance
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 2 (NationPress) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy expressed his relief at finally showcasing a match-winning performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He mentioned that his all-round contributions in the 65-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders were long-awaited and fulfilling.
Reddy scored 39 runs off 24 balls and formed a solid 82-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen while also taking 2 wickets for just 17 runs as SRH celebrated their inaugural win of the tournament. "This is the match-winning performance I have been looking forward to for a considerable time. Thankfully, it arrived at the right moment, and my bowling has instilled confidence in me," he remarked.
He continued, "I’m focusing on maintaining a positive mindset. I had too many negative thoughts after last season didn't favor me, especially since I couldn't bowl. I've put in considerable effort to enhance my bowling skills, and it’s starting to yield results, which brings me joy. I am grateful to the trainers and physiotherapists for getting me back to full fitness." This statement came after he was honored with the Player of the Match title.
SRH had previously set a remarkable total of 226/8, marking the highest score of the season, before restricting KKR to 161 to clinch their first victory. Veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who achieved impressive figures of 3-21 and currently leads the Purple Cap standings, also shared his thoughts on the match. "It’s early in the season, but I’m pleased to contribute whenever possible. Experience definitely plays a role. It’s essential not to concern ourselves with outside opinions. We must focus on what works on any given day," he stated.
"Today, our cutters were effective, so we relied on that strategy. We bowled well into the pitch, claimed crucial wickets, and executed a fortunate run-out. Overall, I am satisfied with our bowling performance after not meeting expectations in the first game. We improved our execution significantly today," he added.
Unadkat pointed out that communication with the batters during the innings was vital for the bowlers to adjust to the conditions. "During our batting innings, the feedback was that the pitch was double-paced and the ball was gripping. Collaborating and maintaining communication proved beneficial," he explained.
"I always aim to keep two options open at the top of my bowling mark and assess the batter's approach, whether they are shifting around or trying to clear their leg. Most decisions are made at the top of the mark, though sometimes you need to adapt at the end. Altering angles and keeping the batsman guessing is essential. The pitches can make it feel like we get hit even on good deliveries. Thus, I strive to keep varying my tactics and challenge the batsman consistently, which worked well for me today," he concluded.
