New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) Following their runner-up finish in the previous IPL season, Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy believes that the sole unfinished business for the franchise is to lift the coveted trophy this year.
SRH has faced a challenging start to the IPL 2025 season, having lost their last two matches, placing them in eighth position in the standings. They aim to secure two points against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at Eden Gardens on Thursday, in a rematch of the IPL 2024 final.
"To be honest, I never set personal goals, even while playing for India or during the IPL last year. The only unfinished business is lifting the trophy. We achieved historical milestones, but our ultimate aim is to win the IPL title and add a second star to SRH's legacy," Reddy stated on JioHotstar's show 'Gen Bold.'
Reflecting on his development since his breakthrough last season, where he amassed 303 runs in 13 matches for SRH and made his debut for India in both T20I and Test formats, Reddy mentioned, "I am very pleased with the progress I’ve made, both in my performances for my country and my IPL franchise. I aim to keep performing at the same level. There has been a significant shift—people have begun to recognize me and appreciate my performances.
"However, I don’t want to let this recognition affect me. Moving forward, I intend to play with the same passion and consistency, whether it’s for my franchise or India. My focus remains on nurturing my love for cricket."
The 21-year-old praised Pat Cummins' leadership qualities, calling him a calm and composed captain. "He is an extremely calm and composed leader. The way he manages pressure is impressive. Observing your captain handling situations smoothly boosts the entire team's confidence."
"His composure instills in us the belief that a comeback is always possible. As a captain, he is exceptional, and I genuinely enjoy playing under his guidance," Reddy stated.
On SRH’s dynamic batting lineup, he remarked, "I hold my team in high regard. We had a fantastic season last year, and we aim to duplicate that success. Our strategy is straightforward—play with a free mindset, maximize runs during the powerplay, and maintain that momentum in the later overs. Every player, whether in the top or middle order, has a role to fulfill. We’re optimistic for another successful season."
Reddy identified Kagiso Rabada as the toughest bowler to face in the IPL, describing the encounter as a significant challenge.
"I believe I’ve started to understand the bowlers better now. Just as they analyze my game, I also assess theirs. My approach will remain consistent, but I’ll adapt as needed. Last year, I didn’t participate in the first four matches, but once I did, I found Kagiso Rabada particularly formidable. During our match against Punjab, he was very expressive on that pitch, making it a tough challenge for me," he expressed.
