London, March 13 (NationPress) Captain Reece James has committed to spending his 'peak years' with Chelsea Football Club after signing a new six-year contract that will keep him with the team until 2032.

James’ prior agreement was set to expire in 2028, but Chelsea acted swiftly to secure their captain's future by renewing his contract before it entered its final phase.

Having joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of six, James has progressed through the ranks and become a crucial player in the first team. The England international has made 225 appearances across all competitions since his senior debut in 2019 and was named club captain in 2023.

The right-back has already experienced significant success at Stamford Bridge, winning five major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League title in 2021. Despite these accomplishments, the 24-year-old is confident that his best years are still to come.

“I am thrilled to have extended my contract – Chelsea holds a special place in my heart,” he stated on the club’s official website.

“I have always expressed my desire to have my peak years here, and I firmly believe we possess the necessary elements to build upon our past successes. I am enthusiastic about the future with this ownership, our sporting directors, the coach, and all the staff, and I hope we can lift many more trophies together in the coming years,” he added.

Chelsea’s sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, praised the extension as a pivotal moment for the club.

“On behalf of the ownership and everyone associated with Chelsea, this is a proud moment for all of us to see Reece extend his contract,” they said in a joint statement.

“He is a leader for this team, both on and off the pitch.”

This season has marked James’ most consistent in terms of playing time after injuries to his knee and hamstring hampered his participation in the previous two campaigns.

Chelsea has strategically managed his workload this season, implementing a structured plan to ensure he does not become overstretched. The defender has made 35 appearances across all competitions this season — his highest since the 2021/22 campaign.

Former England defender Kyle Walker recently endorsed James as the national team’s first-choice right-back following his own international retirement, describing the Chelsea captain as a 'complete' player.

Point of View

The renewal of Reece James' contract is a strategic move for Chelsea, reinforcing their leadership on the field while providing stability as they aim for future successes. This decision reflects the club's commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining a competitive edge.
