London, July 14 (NationPress) Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra commended tennis icon Roger Federer, labeling him a genuine champion not only for his exceptional skills on the court but also for his compassionate nature.

Chopra, who attended the men's singles final at the All England Club between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, reminisced about the era of Federer, who boasts the record for the most grass-court Grand Slam titles with eight, including five consecutive Championships from 2003 to 2007.

"I’m feeling great. This is my inaugural tennis tournament - and at Wimbledon nonetheless - so I’m truly enjoying it. I recall when Federer would win, he donned that grass coat, and we were aware of the tradition - that the entire dress code is white. Watching that always felt uplifting," the javelin star shared with Star Sports.

"Roger Federer is incredibly inspiring - both in his gameplay and as an individual. I had the pleasure of meeting him in Zurich last year, where we spent some time talking. It was truly wonderful. His style of play was likewise remarkable," he added.

Chopra also paid tribute to Spanish tennis great Rafael Nadal, who has clinched 22 Grand Slam titles, including two at Wimbledon, for his relentless determination.

"I'd also like to highlight another player - Nadal. He played exceptionally well too. His tenacity and never-give-up attitude were qualities I deeply admired," he remarked.

"I think Nadal distinguished himself with his physical strength - unlike many other tennis players. He had a fighter’s spirit and appeared very muscular. He didn’t fit the mold of a typical tennis player - he looked formidable. Thus, I’ve always regarded Nadal as truly impressive."

In the men's singles final, Sinner triumphed over Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a thrilling match to secure his first Wimbledon Grand Slam.
