Ranchi, Nov 30 (NationPress) Rohit Sharma, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, delivered an outstanding performance against South Africa in the inaugural ODI on Sunday. In a remarkable achievement, he surpassed Shahid Afridi's longstanding world record for the most sixes in ODI history by smashing three sixes at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.

While Afridi concluded his career with a total of 351 ODI sixes, Rohit increased this record, reaching his 352nd maximum and making history.

During the match, Rohit showcased his extraordinary skills, forming a formidable 136-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the second wicket after Yashasvi Jaiswal fell early. Together, they propelled India’s score, taking on the South African bowlers with flair.

In the 15th over, Rohit launched back-to-back sixes off Prenelan Subrayen. The first six brought him to 350 career sixes, making him the only Indian player to achieve this in ODIs. The second six allowed him to equal Afridi's tally.

After reaching his 60th ODI half-century in the 19th over, Rohit hit his 352nd six, securing his place at the top of the elite list. Only three cricketers have hit more than 300 sixes in ODIs: Rohit, Afridi, and Chris Gayle, who has 331 maximums.

Rohit's innings concluded in the 22nd over when Marco Jansen trapped him lbw, ending his remarkable performance at 57 runs off 51 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. This knock marked his third consecutive half-century in ODIs. Following impressive scores in his previous series against Australia, Rohit has made a compelling case for his selection for the upcoming 2027 World Cup.
