New Delhi, Dec 29 (NationPress) Portugal's captain Cristiano Ronaldo has declared that he will keep playing until he reaches his 1,000th career goal. This statement came shortly after he was honored with the Best Middle East Player Award at the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai.
Having netted 956 goals for both club and country, Ronaldo leads as Portugal’s all-time scorer with 143 goals and is the top scorer for Real Madrid with 450. He uniquely stands out as the only player to score over 100 goals for four different clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.
The legendary forward continues to break scoring records at Al Nassr, having scored twice in their 3-0 victory against Al Akhdoud. This season, he has already tallied 12 goals in the Saudi Pro League, trailing only his fellow Portuguese player Felix.
"It's challenging to keep playing, but I’m driven. My passion remains high, and I want to persist. It doesn't matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always find joy in football and wish to continue my journey," Ronaldo stated.
"You know my ambition. I aim to win trophies and achieve that 1,000 goals mark you all are aware of. I will reach that figure for sure, provided I avoid injuries," he added.
The 40-year-old forward, who joined Al-Nassr in 2022, extended his contract with the Saudi Arabian club for another two years in July and has recorded 112 goals in 125 appearances with them.
Recently, the Portuguese superstar mentioned that the upcoming World Cup would be his last, indicating he plans to retire from football in "one or two years".
In October, Ronaldo made history by becoming the outright leading scorer in World Cup qualifying history, extending his record to 41 goals.
