New Delhi, July 15 (NationPress) Jorge Jesus has been named the head coach of Al Nassr Football Club in Saudi Arabia, succeeding Stefano Pioli. The Portuguese manager disclosed that he received an invitation from Cristiano Ronaldo to join the squad.
Previously, Jesus spent two seasons with Al Nassr’s local rivals, Al Hilal SFC, marking his second tenure at the Riyadh-based club.
“Without his invitation, I definitely wouldn't be here. The motivation is immense. I'm committed to helping Al Nassr, one of the premier clubs in Saudi Arabia, achieve victory in titles. Cristiano Ronaldo is a player who has consistently won throughout his career, yet he has yet to secure a title in Saudi Arabia. I aim to be a part of that journey,” Jesus shared with the media.
After parting ways with Al Hilal following their exit in the AFC Champions League 2024/25 semi-finals, Jesus enjoyed significant success, leading the four-time Asian champions to a treble in the 2023/24 season, where they clinched the Saudi Pro League, King’s Cup, and Saudi Super Cup.
The 70-year-old has also managed Benfica and Sporting CP in Portugal, as well as Flamengo in Brazil. At Al Nassr, he will collaborate with the Portuguese legend Ronaldo, who recently renewed his contract until 2027.
“Bem-vindo (Welcome), Mister Jorge Jesus,” Ronaldo expressed in an Instagram Story.
Ronaldo, who moved to Al Nassr in late 2022 after a high-profile departure from Manchester United, has been exceptional, netting 93 goals in 105 matches across various competitions. His transition to Saudi Arabia signifies a transformative moment in global football, attracting worldwide attention to the Saudi Pro League and paving the way for a surge of star players in the region.
