Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Freya Kemp, Linsey Smith & Linsey Smith Selected for England’s Women’s Ashes Squad

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Seamer Ryana MacDonald-Gay, all-rounder Freya Kemp, spinner Linsey Smith, and wicketkeeper-batter Linsey Smith have been included in England’s squad for the forthcoming Women’s Ashes.

Ryana, who made her white-ball debut during England’s tour of Ireland earlier this year, captured two wickets on her Test debut against South Africa and retains her spot in the longer format team for the upcoming trip to Australia.

Freya and Linsey are participating in an Ashes squad for the first time and are exclusively part of the T20I team, while Bess is named in both the T20I and Test squads after recovering from a fractured thumb, which sidelined her from the South Africa tour.

Left-arm pacer Mahika Gaur will join the team as she continues her recovery and return to bowling after the injury that rendered her unavailable for the recent South Africa tour. England will depart for Sydney on January 2 and will play a warm-up match against a Governor General's XI on January 9.

"We have assembled balanced squads for this Ashes series, integrating a good mix of youth and experience. Ashes series are always significant. We aim to go there, play our game, and are all eager for the challenges ahead," stated head coach Jon Lewis in a statement.

England's Women’s Ashes journey begins with three ODIs in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart from January 11-16. This will be followed by three T20Is scheduled in Sydney, Canberra, and Adelaide from January 20-25.

The four-day Test, which will also mark the inaugural day-night match, is set to take place from January 30 to February 2 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This game will conclude the multi-format Women’s Ashes series for the first time since its inception in 2015.

During the previous Ashes series in England in 2023, Australia claimed victory in the Test match at Trent Bridge, but England succeeded in both white-ball formats, resulting in an eight-all draw of the multi-format series.
