Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Scotland men's head coach Owen Dawkins announced the coaching staff and support team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India on Monday.
Both Dawkins and men's assistant coach Gordon Drummond, appointed in December 2025, will be joined by Moneeb Iqbal, Paul Tweddle, and Zac Bess during the tournament.
The backroom staff includes Dr Raj McRea-Routray (Doctor), Gary Metcalfe (Physio), and Fiona Rae (Team Manager), all assembled on short notice after Scotland received the invitation to participate in the tournament just ten days prior.
Moneeb Iqbal, a former Scotland international, will serve as Spin Coach for a second consecutive Men's T20 World Cup, having been part of the coaching team for the 2024 tournament in the West Indies and USA.
Paul Tweddle, who is Somerset’s fielding and assistant coach, contributed to the county's T20 Blast victories in 2023 and 2025. He has also taken on the role of interim head coach at Taunton and has collaborated with the England Lions at the international level.
Zac Bess will function as the strength and conditioning coach, a position he currently holds with Nottinghamshire. He has prior experience with Worcestershire and has participated in franchise cricket with Trent Rockets in The Hundred.
Owen Dawkins expressed, “I’m thrilled to announce the Scotland coaching team for this T20 World Cup campaign. Given the limited time we had to assemble a staff for the tournament, it was crucial to create a team with diverse experiences to support Gordon and myself, and I’m pleased to see we’ve formed a high-quality group.
“Moneeb and Paul both add significant value in their unique areas. Moneeb has a solid understanding of much of the playing squad, having collaborated with them over the last few years, including at the last World Cup in the Caribbean.
“Paul brings extensive experience from his successful tenure at Somerset and prior tours with England. I am eager to have him lead our fielding efforts during the tour, knowing the players will greatly benefit from his expertise, and he will contribute across all skill sets.
“Our support staff has consistently performed at a high level, with Gary just returning from the Men's U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe, and Raj joining him there before returning home to assist with our preparations for this tour.
“Fiona is arriving directly from Nepal, where she managed the women’s squad at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, bringing valuable tournament experience from both cricket and rugby. While she wraps up her responsibilities in Nepal, our Head of Communications is overseeing the initial phase of our tour until her arrival, and it’s the adaptability of our staff that will contribute to our success as a team.
“I am sincerely appreciative of everyone who managed to adjust their schedules to be available on such short notice, particularly Steve Snell, our Head of Performance, who swiftly coordinated everything to ensure our players receive exceptional support here in India as we look forward to an exciting journey ahead.”
