Monterrey, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Liga MX club Monterrey has officially announced the acquisition of Sergio Ramos, the former defender for Real Madrid and a champion with Spain, on a one-year contract. Ramos, who is 38 years old, joins the team as a free agent after his departure from Sevilla last June.

The club stated, "Monterrey has successfully finalized an agreement with the Spanish football icon Sergio Ramos to join as a new player for the Rayados on a one-year deal," as per a quote from Xinhua.

They emphasized that Sergio's addition marks a historic moment for the club due to his remarkable career, significant achievements, and global fame.

With a total of 117 goals at the club level and 23 for the national team, Ramos will be part of the squad competing in Liga BBVA MX, the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Leagues Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

Having won multiple titles with Real Madrid and PSG, Ramos was also part of the Spanish team that lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and secured two UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

Reports suggest that Monterrey outmaneuvered competitors from Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and the United States to secure Ramos’s signature.

The Liga MX team prioritized signing a center-back following a severe knee injury sustained by Carlos Salcedo during his initial training session with the club last month.

During his illustrious 22-year career, Ramos has captured four UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid and the FIFA World Cup trophy with Spain.

He is anticipated to make his debut for Monterrey in an upcoming home match against San Luis on February 22.
