Madrid, Sep 26 (NationPress) - Spanish football icon Sergio Busquets revealed on Friday his intention to hang up his boots at the conclusion of the ongoing MLS season. The former Barcelona midfielder, who achieved 143 caps for Spain and celebrated victories in the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championships, shared this news through a heartfelt video and a message on social media.

"I am grateful to everyone and to football for everything it has given me. This beautiful journey will always remain close to my heart. Thank you sincerely to all, and to football, for every moment," stated the 37-year-old, currently playing alongside fellow Barcelona legend Leo Messi at Inter Miami.

The son of former Barcelona goalkeeper Carlos Busquets, Sergio made his first-team appearance under coach Pep Guardiola in 2008. Over his illustrious career, he amassed 722 appearances for Barcelona, securing nine La Liga titles, seven Copas del Rey, and three Champions League trophies, according to reports by Xinhua.

Former teammates and rivals quickly expressed their respect for the midfielder.
