Dubai, July 15 (NationPress) Indian opener Shafali Verma has made a remarkable comeback, soaring back into the top 10 batters in the most recent ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings released on Tuesday.
Concluding the five-match T20I series with an impressive tally of 176 runs at a striking rate of 158.56, Shafali secured the position of the second-highest run-scorer, just behind her fellow opener Smriti Mandhana.
The 21-year-old shone brightly with the bat, scoring a stellar 75 off 41 balls in India's nail-biting last-ball loss, which propelled her four spots up to ninth position with 655 points.
Meanwhile, Mandhana, the highest-ranked Indian batter in this format, maintains her spot at third after racking up 221 runs over five innings, thus finishing as the top run-scorer as Harmanpreet Kaur's side clinched the series 3-2, marking a historic achievement.
However, Jemimah Rodrigues slipped two positions down to 14th after scoring only 108 runs in the series, including one half-century. Captain Harmanpreet, who accumulated 65 runs across four matches, also remained steady in 15th place.
Another significant contributor to India’s series success, Arundhati Reddy, took six wickets throughout the series and saw her rankings improve. She jumped four spots to 39th in the bowling rankings and climbed 26 positions to 80th among all-rounders after taking two wickets in the final T20I.
On the England side, several players made noteworthy advancements. Spinner Charlie Dean entered the top 10 bowling rankings after a stellar Player of the Match performance, taking 3-23 in the last game, which saw her jump eight spots to share sixth place with Nashra Sandhu and Georgia Wareham.
Linsey Smith surged nine places to 38th, while pacer Issy Wong improved by seven spots to 50th. Emily Arlott, who debuted for England earlier this summer against the West Indies, rose 15 places to reach 67th.
Sophia Dunkley, England’s leading scorer with 151 runs, moved up seven points to 19th in the Batting Rankings after crucial contributions of 22 and 46 in her last two outings.
Lastly, opener Tammy Beaumont continued her recent upward trajectory, jumping 19 places to the 45th position.
