Why Did Shardul Thakur Miss the Ranji Match Against Hyderabad?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 22 (NationPress) Dinesh Lad, the childhood coach of Shardul Thakur, disclosed that the Mumbai captain has been sidelined due to a minor leg injury, which caused him to miss the Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad on Thursday.
Thakur has been at the helm for Mumbai since the tournament commenced, leading the team to three victories in five matches, while the other two concluded as draws. However, he couldn't participate in the current match against Hyderabad, with Siddhesh Lad stepping in as captain.
“Shardul experienced some physical discomfort and hurt his leg. He is on the mend and regaining fitness, and he should be back for the next match. I’ve spoken with him, and he anticipates being available for the game against Delhi in Mumbai,” Dinesh informed IANS regarding Shardul's absence.
Dinesh Lad, who is also the father of Siddhesh and has a rich coaching background that includes mentoring former India captain Rohit Sharma, expressed pride in his son's performance in the Ranji Trophy after he was appointed captain for the Hyderabad match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
He further noted that Thakur believes that if Siddhesh continues to deliver strong performances, he could soon receive his first call-up to the national team.
“I had a chat with Shardul recently, and he feels that if Siddhesh maintains his current form, he might soon get selected for India. I’m optimistic that if he scores a couple of centuries in the next few matches, he could earn that coveted call,” Lad mentioned.
Reflecting on Siddhesh’s opportunity to lead the team during Shardul’s recovery, Dinesh expressed great pride and shared a straightforward message for his son.
“It’s heartening that Shardul led the team initially, and now Siddhesh has taken over. I feel immensely proud. My only advice to Siddhesh is to play well and make the team proud,” he stated.
Siddhesh enters the match against Hyderabad in exceptional form. In Mumbai’s latest Ranji Trophy clash against Puducherry, the right-handed batsman was awarded Player of the Match after scoring an impressive 170 runs off 285 balls, aiding Mumbai in achieving a resounding innings-and-222-run victory.
