Ahmed Shehzad Critiques PCB's Weak Control Over Cricket
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) Former cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has voiced strong disapproval of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), labeling it as an ineffective organization and attributing the team's poor performance to the excessive influence of a select few individuals. He believes this has severely impacted the team’s outcomes.
Pakistan has not advanced to the knockout rounds in their last four ICC tournaments, which has sparked increasing criticism towards both the players and the board. Most recently, they were eliminated during the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026.
“Whenever player discussions arise, they begin weaving tales. I have never encountered a PCB as feeble as this one. They possess authority, but in their decision-making, they seem to bow down to their players. This PCB is ineffectual,” Shehzad remarked during his YouTube broadcast.
“The initiatives they should have undertaken, such as integrating new talent, were neglected. Instead, after every event, they attempt to introduce a new gimmick, but the public has recognized their recurring pattern,” he continued.
Shehzad further criticized the PCB’s emphasis on elevating a few players through the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which he argues fosters an unhealthy environment.
“The standard of your players is not at the level that was previously established as a brand by the PCB for PSL 5 and 7 years back. The same 6-8 individuals… are now the faces of the PSL and our Pakistan team. Will they alter Pakistan’s fate?” Shehzad questioned.
He pointed out that while the board provided these players with sponsorships, leadership roles, and excessive authority, they failed to deliver results in return.
“You’ve given all the sponsorships to these players, supported them, and invested money in them. You made them captains in the PSL, correct? You turned these 6 boys into the linchpins of the Pakistan team. And what have they accomplished? The chaos they’ve generated, the enjoyment they’ve had, and the money they’ve pocketed have not translated into victories for Pakistan,” he added.
He also lambasted the players for their refusal to take responsibility amidst their lackluster performance, which contributed to the country’s cricketing decline.
“Such is their arrogance that even now, they refuse to acknowledge their accountability. Not a single one of those players admits to their role. They still engage in the blame game. Their ego remains unbroken. The Pakistan Cricket Board is now incredibly weak,” he concluded.
Following their disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 performance, Pakistan’s struggles continued as they lost a three-match ODI series against a lower-ranked Bangladesh, further compounding their humiliation.
