Adelaide, Feb 21 (NationPress) India’s off-spin bowling all-rounder Shreyanka Patil expressed that dismissing seasoned player Ellyse Perry during her 350th international match was a remarkably special experience for her. This moment came as the Indian team clinched a 2-1 T20I series victory in the multi-format series against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

Shreyanka recorded impressive figures of 3-22, including the crucial wicket of Ellyse, as India defended their total of 176/6 by limiting Australia to 159/9, securing a 17-run win that also marked India's first women's T20I series win in Australia in a decade.

“I find confidence when I see my hands and revs working in a specific way. Today, I truly felt that, and claiming that wicket will certainly enhance your confidence. What filled me with joy was taking Pez’s wicket, especially since it was her 350th match; this is a moment she and I will cherish,” Shreyanka remarked during the post-match press conference.

As it was her inaugural tour of Australia, Shreyanka highlighted that the series win represented a significant achievement for the team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur. “This being my first visit to Australia, achieving the series win is always a memorable moment for everyone involved in this team,” she stated.

“We are relishing this victory and expressing gratitude. My intent was to ensure a win for my team, regardless of the phase I bowl in. Maintaining a positive mindset was essential as I aimed to secure wickets,” she added.

Shreyanka also talked about enjoying the challenge of bowling on Australian pitches, which provide minimal turn. “Indeed, it can be tricky for spinners with little turn available. However, I thrive in such conditions as they challenge you to adapt your mindset and strategies. I’ve truly enjoyed the two matches I’ve played here,” she noted.

She commended the batting performances of Smriti Mandhana (82) and Jemimah Rodrigues (59), which laid the groundwork for India’s triumph. “Watching those two bat was absolutely magnificent. Their running between the wickets, taking quick doubles… they did an outstanding job building that partnership, which instilled confidence, and Richa took it from there,” she praised.

Following their Women’s ODI World Cup success, India added another accolade to their achievements with this bilateral victory, aiming to gain more points in the upcoming ODI matches. “While I’m only participating in the T20 series, I’m grateful for this series win. The team is coming together exceptionally well after their World Cup victory, and they are eager to win another series against Australia,” Shreyanka concluded.

She emphasized that the confidence gained from defeating Australia would be advantageous for India as they prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled in England for June-July. “Competing against Australia, England, and any other team enhances your confidence when the team performs well and secures victories. Such experiences provide an extra boost, especially as we head into the World Cup, where these series wins will be beneficial,” she remarked.
