New Delhi, Nov 1 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, has now stabilized and was discharged from a Sydney hospital on Saturday, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Iyer's unfortunate fall while attempting a catch led to a laceration of his spleen, resulting in internal bleeding. This injury was swiftly diagnosed, and the bleeding was controlled following a minor procedure. He has received the necessary medical care for his recovery.
“He is currently stable and on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in conjunction with specialists in both Sydney and India, are satisfied with his progress, and he has been released from the hospital today,” stated the BCCI.
The board also expressed gratitude to the medical professionals treating Iyer, particularly Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for their role in the batter's recovery. In the meantime, Iyer will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will only return to India once he is cleared for travel.
“The BCCI extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received top-notch treatment for his injury. He will remain in Sydney for further follow-ups and will head back to India when he is fit to fly,” the statement elaborated.
On Thursday, Iyer expressed his appreciation for the outpouring of support he received during his recovery from a serious injury.
"I’m currently in the recovery process and improving each day. I’m truly thankful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received—it means so much. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts," he shared on social media.
