New Delhi, May 12 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj took to social media to pay tribute to his ‘superhero’, Virat Kohli, who has officially ended his remarkable journey in Test cricket.
Kohli, who made his Test debut in 2011, announced his retirement from red-ball cricket on Monday via a social media update. He concluded his Test career with an impressive total of 9230 runs in 123 matches, boasting an average of 46.85, along with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
Siraj made his Test debut during India’s landmark victory at the 2020 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Although Kohli was the team's captain at the time, he had to return to India for the birth of his first child, which paved the way for Siraj to receive his debut cap from stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane during the second Test at Melbourne.
“To my superhero, congratulations on this extraordinary career you had in Test cricket. Your legacy will remain forever. You have inspired many generations of cricketers like me and will continue to do so through your accomplishments and the way you have conducted yourself, bhaiya.
“The dressing room will not be the same without you. Thank you for always supporting me and encouraging me to excel. Wishing you all the best. King @virat.kohli Bhaiya,” Siraj expressed on Instagram.
India wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul made his debut during India's tour of Australia in 2014, during the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which turned out to be Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s final match as India’s Test captain. Rahul, who could only score five runs across both innings, witnessed Kohli’s remarkable innings, where he scored an incredible 169.
Kohli’s time as India’s most successful captain saw him win 40 out of 68 matches at the helm, particularly highlighted during the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Rahul mentioned he would miss the supportive gestures.
“What a journey it has been. Watching you dedicate yourself to Test cricket was a privilege. More than the statistics, it’s your passion, discipline, and love for the game that will stay with us. I am grateful for the memories, guidance, and friendship. I’ll miss the supportive gestures, slip banter, and long dinner conversations. Lots of love, see you soon, bro,” Rahul remarked.
