SMAT: Gujarat's Urvil Patel Achieves Historic Feat with Two T20 Centuries Under 40 Balls

Indore, Dec 3 (NationPress) Gujarat's opener Urvil Patel on Tuesday delivered an extraordinary performance, scoring his second T20 century in a span of just six days during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Uttarakhand at the Emerald High School Ground. Patel achieved a remarkable hundred off only 36 balls, leading Gujarat to a dominant eight-wicket win in just 13.1 overs.

This achievement marks Patel as the first player in T20 cricket history to record two centuries in less than 40 balls. This remarkable feat follows his previous record-setting 28-ball century last week against Tripura on the very same ground.

While chasing a target of 183, Patel unleashed a stunning display, remaining unbeaten on 115 runs from just 41 balls. His innings comprised eight boundaries and 11 towering sixes, highlighting his capacity to dismantle any bowling attack. His explosive batting ensured that Gujarat reached the target with a comfortable 41 balls to spare.

In his earlier match, Patel scored an impressive 113 runs off 35 balls while pursuing a modest target of 156. His innings featured 12 sixes and seven fours, swiftly guiding Gujarat to victory in just 10.2 overs. His 28-ball century remains the fastest by an Indian in T20 cricket, with a staggering strike rate of 322.86, second only to Sahil Chauhan from Estonia, who achieved a 27-ball hundred earlier this year.

Patel's ability for rapid scoring is not a new phenomenon. Exactly one year prior to his first 28-ball T20 century, he recorded the second-fastest List A hundred in Indian cricket, reaching the milestone in just 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh.

The 26-year-old was a member of the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2023 season, acquired for Rs 20 lakh. However, despite his explosive displays, Patel was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He entered the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh but remained unsold.
