Barrackpore, March 31 (NationPress) Sribhumi FC achieved their first victory in three matches with a decisive 4-2 triumph over Nita Football Academy during their IWL 2024-25 clash at the Bibhutibhushan Stadium on Monday. The home team was ahead 3-1 at the break.

A remarkable brace from Mousumi Murmu (33’, 45+2’) paved the way for Sribhumi’s solid win, elevating them to third position on the leaderboard with 15 points from 11 games. Sandra Atinga (42’) and Bala Devi (52’) contributed one goal each, while Manisha Naik (34’) and Juli Kishan (58’) found the net for Nita FA, who are currently in fifth place with 13 points from 11 matches.

Although Sribhumi was dominant early on, they struggled with composure in the final third during the game’s opening minutes. It took half an hour for the match to ignite when Mousumi Murmu capitalized on a precise through ball from Bala Devi to launch the ball into the top of the Nita FA net.

The home side deserved their lead, but it was short-lived. Almost immediately after the restart, Nita equalized when seasoned midfielder Kamala Devi delivered an excellent through ball to Manisha Naik, who skillfully poked the ball past Aditi Chauhan.

The two teams engaged in a series of attacks, and Sribhumi regained the lead when Sandra Atinga executed a stunning 35-yard free-kick into the goal. Just minutes later, Murmu added her second, deftly chipping the goalkeeper after breaking through the defense.

With momentum on their side, Sribhumi didn’t lose their edge after halftime. Just minutes into the second half, Bala Devi scored their fourth goal, finishing accurately from inside the box after a cutback found her. Nita reduced the gap shortly before the hour mark when Juli Kishan scored with a header from a corner.

Despite having a third of the match remaining, Nita's attack lost its potency as their key players visibly fatigued. Sribhumi chose to defend rather than press forward, and while both Bala and Murmu had chances to extend their lead, they were thwarted by Sasmita Parida in goal for Nita. Ultimately, Sribhumi secured the three points comfortably.
