New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh’s Suraj Sharma achieved an impressive double victory, capturing both the Senior and Junior national titles in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (RFP) event at the 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi on Friday.
Suraj first showcased his skills in the junior final, finishing with 30 hits to clinch the gold medal, before returning later to dominate the senior final and secure another title with 31 hits.
He began the senior final with a strong start, hitting 19 out of his first 20 targets, ultimately closing the contest with 31 hits, finishing three ahead of defending champion Vijayveer Sidhu from Punjab, who took the silver with 28 hits. Bhavesh Shekhawat from Rajasthan completed the podium, earning bronze with 24 hits.
Ankur Goel finished fourth with 14 hits after a series of shoot-offs against Mukesh Nelavalli from Andhra Pradesh, who placed fifth with 12 hits. Adarsh Singh from Haryana wrapped up the final in sixth place with just 5 hits.
Earlier in the qualification round, Ankur Goel led with a score of 582-20x, followed closely by Vijayveer Sidhu at 580-18x, and Adarsh Singh at 579-22x. Mukesh Nelavalli took fourth with 579-17x, just ahead of the eventual champion Suraj Sharma, who qualified fifth with 579-12x. Bhavesh Shekhawat rounded out the top six with 577-22x.
In the junior men's final, Suraj Sharma maintained his composure, winning gold with 30 hits. Mukesh Nelavalli earned silver with 25 hits, while Haryana's Jatin secured bronze with 22 hits following a shoot-off. Sameer finished fourth with 17 hits, followed by Bhavya Sharma in fifth with 8 hits and Abhinav Choudhary in sixth with 6 hits.
In the team events, Punjab took gold in the senior category with a total of 1725, led by Vijayveer Sidhu, Udhayveer Sidhu, and Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu. Haryana secured the silver with 1722, while the Navy earned bronze with 1711.
For the junior team events, Haryana claimed gold with a total of 1705, consisting of Jatin, Sameer, and Nishant Rathee. Madhya Pradesh took silver with 1689, while the Navy finished with bronze at 1667.
The competition is set to continue on Friday, December 27, 2025, at the MP State Shooting Academy in Bhopal, with the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women finals starting at 9:00 AM.
