Surrey, June 27 (NationPress) — Australia’s renowned spinner Adam Zampa has officially joined Surrey to participate in four matches of the T20 Blast. He is set to arrive just in time for Surrey’s double-header clash against Essex at The Oval on July 6. The 33-year-old holds the title of the highest wicket-taker for Australia in T20 cricket, boasting an impressive total of 117 wickets. Zampa was the first Australian bowler to surpass the 100 T20I wickets milestone and has been a pivotal member of the teams that triumphed in the T20 World Cup in 2021 and the 50-over World Cup in 2023.
The leg-spin maestro has accumulated over 350 T20 wickets throughout his career, which has seen him shine in prominent franchise leagues worldwide, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Big Bash League, and The Hundred. Notably, he played a crucial role in securing back-to-back titles for the Oval Invincibles in 2023 and 2024.
Under the leadership of Sam Curran, Surrey has exhibited remarkable form in the tournament, recently clinching a nail-biting victory against Kent with Chris Jordan hitting the final ball for four runs. This victory was followed by convincing wins at home against Sussex and Middlesex, the latter attracting a packed crowd.
Zampa’s debut will be during the double-header against Essex on July 6, followed by an away match against Gloucestershire. He will return to The Oval for a game against Glamorgan on July 11 under the floodlights, concluding his initial stint in the Three Feathers with another double-header against group leaders Somerset on July 13.
Should Surrey advance to the knockout rounds, Zampa will be available for both the quarter-finals and Finals Day.
Alec Stewart, High-Performance Cricket Advisor at Surrey CCC, remarked, “Adam Zampa is one of the top T20 spinners globally, and I’m thrilled to have him join us for the Vitality Blast. He brings invaluable experience, technical prowess, and a positive character.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Adam Zampa stated, “I’m eager to start my journey with Surrey and perform in front of the Kia Oval crowd once more. It’s among the finest venues worldwide, and I understand the significance of playing for Surrey to the team, so I’m looking forward to the experience.”
