Beijing (China), Oct 21 (NationPress) The World Table Tennis (WTT) declared on Tuesday that six competitors, including the top-ranked players Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha from China, have opted out of the upcoming WTT Champions Montpellier event next week.

The list of withdrawals features Wang, Sun, Lin Shidong, Liang Jingkun, and Wang Manyu, who were pivotal in securing both the men’s and women’s team championships at the recently held ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar, India, along with Japan’s Shunsuke Togami.

The WTT has confirmed that Wen Ruibo will step in for Liang in the men’s singles competition. The WTT Champions Montpellier is scheduled for October 28 to November 2, as reported by Xinhua.

This Montpellier tournament, followed closely by the Frankfurt event, forms part of the European segment of the WTT Series. The WTT Champions Frankfurt 2025 will take place from November 4–9.

This back-to-back event signifies the final WTT Champions rush of the season, where world ranking points, pride, and legacies clash. Each point accrued throughout the WTT Series is crucial, as the sport's elite strive for qualification for the WTT Finals Hong Kong 2025, pursuing momentum and the chance to end their year at the pinnacle.

Returning to the Sud de France Arena in Montpellier, which is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, the WTT Champions Montpellier 2025 will see France’s emerging talent, Felix Lebrun and Alexis Lebrun, spearheading the local effort alongside the established star Simon Gauzy.

Young sensations Jia Nan Yuan and Prithika Pavade, who are setting new standards for the upcoming generation, will headline a star-studded lineup, all ready to establish Montpellier as their proving ground.
