The 48-year-old Dutchman, who boasts a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, has finalized a contract that extends until June 2027.

He is expected to arrive in the UK in time to attend Leicester's upcoming Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday, before officially taking over full first team responsibilities on Sunday.

During the match at the Gtech Community Stadium, first team coach Ben Dawson will lead the team, with support from coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes. Known as one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers, the former Netherlands international has developed a solid reputation as a skilled manager and coach with clubs like PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, and the Dutch national team.

“I’m proud, I’m excited. Everyone I talk to about Leicester City Football Club shares a sense of enthusiasm. They recount wonderful stories about the quality of the people associated with the club, the loyal supporters, and the impressive recent history of the team. I’m eager to start, get to know everyone, and give everything I can for the Football Club,” Nistelrooy stated.

Nistelrooy had a remarkable playing career with PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, netting 349 club goals and 35 international goals in 70 appearances for the Netherlands. Renowned for his clinical finishing, technical skills, and leadership, he has successfully transitioned these attributes into coaching.

His managerial career began at PSV Eindhoven, where he managed the U-19s and Jong PSV before being appointed head coach in 2022. Under his guidance, PSV clinched the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield. Nistelrooy also served as an assistant coach for the Netherlands under Guus Hiddink and gained further acclaim during a brief stint as interim manager at Manchester United, achieving three wins and a draw while serving as Erik ten Hag's assistant.

His extensive playing experience under legends like Sir Alex Ferguson and Fabio Capello, coupled with his managerial successes, solidifies his status as a respected figure in the world of football.

He will lead the Foxes for the first time on Tuesday when West Ham United visits the King Power Stadium for a Premier League clash.
