New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron emphasized that Under-19 cricketers ought to embrace their individuality as they gear up for the forthcoming U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. He noted that these formative years are irreplaceable in one's life.
"Playing Under-19 cricket is all about showcasing your true self. Performance pressure exists at all levels, even from Under-14, but the coaches for this team encourage the players to enjoy their game and express their natural talents on the field. Those Under-19 years will never return, so it's crucial for them to be authentic," Aaron stated during a conversation on JioStar.
The India U19 team is currently engaged in their second Youth ODI against South Africa at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, having won the first match by 25 runs via the DLS Method. This three-match series serves as a preparation for the major tournament set to kick off on January 15.
Captain Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra are absent from the tour due to wrist injuries but are expected to return in time for the U19 World Cup. India will start their U19 World Cup journey against USA in Bulawayo, followed by matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh in the league phase. India holds the record for the most titles in the Men’s U19 World Cup, with five championships.
The 16th edition of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup in 2026 will feature 16 teams organized into four groups of four. Each team will compete against the other three in their group during the initial round, with the top teams moving on to the Super Six stage.
The leading four teams will then advance to the semi-finals scheduled for February 3 and 4 in Bulawayo and Harare, with the final taking place at the Harare Sports Club on February 6.
