In Group D, South Africa will compete against the West Indies, Afghanistan, and Tanzania. Their first match is against Afghanistan at the HP Oval, Windhoek, on January 16.
Patrick Moroney, the U19 Convenor of Selectors, remarked, "The balance and depth of this squad are commendable. Each player has demonstrated their worth through consistent performances and dedication. This group has exhibited great maturity under pressure, and we have confidence in their skills and temperament to excel at the pinnacle of youth cricket.”
Before the global event, the team will engage in three Youth ODIs against India at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, from January 5 to 7, 2026, under head coach Malibongwe Maketa.
Coach Maketa expressed his excitement about the squad's readiness, stating, "What stands out is the remarkable development these players have achieved. From their initial meeting with me as 16-year-olds to their present selves, it's evident we're nurturing not just cricketers, but responsible young men for our nation."
He added, "Their understanding of the intensity expected at the international level has been exceptional. They have revisited their training with coaches and returned with a heightened level of determination, exactly what’s required for a World Cup.”
Maketa also praised the values embraced by the team. "I have immense faith in this group. Their advancement, combined with the culture we’ve established focused on hard work, resilience, and prioritizing the team, instills real confidence in me. They have adopted these values with eagerness and quiet assurance, making me optimistic about our potential accomplishments,” remarked Maketa.
The tournament will maintain its traditional format, consisting of 16 teams divided into four groups during the initial stage. A total of 41 matches will occur over 23 days, followed by the Super Six phase where the top three teams from each group will form two groups of six.
