New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) Pakistan fast bowler Usman Khan Shinwari has officially declared his retirement from international cricket after participating in a total of 34 matches for the national team over a span of six years.
This left-arm pacer made his international debut in 2013 against Sri Lanka in a T20I match, subsequently making his ODI and Test debuts against the same team. Throughout his career, he has played in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, claiming 34 wickets in ODIs and 13 wickets in T20Is.
His sole Test match was held in December 2019 against Sri Lanka, which also marked his last appearance for Pakistan.
Shinwari became the 58th T20I cap, 216th ODI cap, and 240th Test cap of Pakistan—achievements that came in December 2013, October 2017, and December 2019 respectively. He was also part of Pakistan’s squad for the ACC Men’s ODI Asia Cup in 2018.
At 31 years old, he recorded 34 ODI and 13 T20I wickets. Notably, he achieved two five-wicket hauls in ODIs against Sri Lanka, with figures of 5-34 in 2017 at Sharjah and 5-51 in 2019 in Karachi.
Shinwari retired from red-ball cricket in 2021, having debuted in Test matches only in 2019. Although he took one wicket in his debut match, he quickly fell out of favor and lost his contract with the Pakistan team.
His breakthrough came when he stunned a Misbah-ul-Haq-led SNGPL team in the departmental T20 Cup final in 2013, where he took five wickets for just nine runs in a stunning performance.
Throughout his brief international career, he faced persistent issues with a back injury.
