Jaipur, April 29 (NationPress) Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar expressed his admiration for the 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals player Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his record-setting performance against the Gujarat Titans.
Vaibhav unleashed a stunning 101 runs off just 38 balls, leading the RR to a remarkable victory over GT by eight wickets during the IPL 2025 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.
Only a short time after becoming the youngest player to debut in the IPL, Vaibhav achieved an extraordinary milestone with his century against GT. His century, completed in just 35 balls, marks the fastest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, trailing only Chris Gayle’s iconic innings from 2013 by five balls.
At just 14 years and 32 days, Vaibhav has also become the youngest player to score a century in both IPL and T20 cricket.
"I have never witnessed such an amazing display, nor could I have foreseen the impact it would generate. We had Sachin Tendulkar at 14 or 15, but he had to endure the trials of the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy before representing the country. Parthiv Patel once entered the scene without first-class experience and saved a Test match for India. But this situation is completely unique.
"This is T20 cricket — a daring 14-year-old taking on 3-4 of the finest bowlers like Rashid Khan, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. Chasing a target close to 210, the fact that he kept pushing forward — particularly favoring the on-side while executing spectacular shots through the off-side as well — was remarkable.
"That six he hit off Prasidh Krishna’s slower ball, with his weight entirely on the back foot, clearing long-off, was absolutely phenomenal," Bangar commented on JioHotstar.
The 14-year-old reached his half-century in just 17 balls, hitting Washington Sundar for two sixes and a four within four deliveries during the fifth over, marking the fastest fifty of IPL 2025. He continued his assault, bringing up his century with a signature six off Rashid Khan before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna in the following over.
Bangar elaborated on the importance of Vaibhav’s accomplishment and its broader implications beyond the match. "I appreciated his celebration as well — a simple, almost salute-like gesture with the bat, as if to say, ‘Keep me in your prayers.’ That kind of flair is admirable. I am genuinely pleased he reached this milestone so early. I can only imagine the pride felt by his parents, coaches, and support staff.
"Coming from Bihar, this achievement will have a profound impact — motivating countless youth who wake up at 7 AM to train. His success will resonate with them for years to come," he stated.
