Kolkata, April 4 (NationPress) Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron commended Vaibhav Arora, the medium pacer for Kolkata Knight Riders, for his outstanding performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He noted that the 27-year-old effectively backed his lengths and delivered at pivotal moments.
Arora, who was brought in as an impact player for KKR, made an early mark by dismissing the dangerous Travis Head on just the second ball of the innings. Notably, he had previously dismissed Head for a golden duck in the IPL 2024 final.
He added another wicket to his name by sending Ishan Kishan back to the pavilion and then took down Heinrich Klassen, contributing to KKR bundling out SRH for a mere 120 runs in 16.4 overs while chasing a target of 201. His performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
"I was thrilled to see him receive Man of the Match; this performance truly warranted acknowledgment. Taking out three key players from the opposition was a game-changing effort. He bowled exceptionally well, maintaining his composure despite Travis Head attacking from the very first ball. He remained resolute, adhered to his lengths, and executed at the right moments. It was a remarkable effort from him tonight," Aaron stated on JioHotstar.
While chasing 201 runs, SRH never really stood a chance as their top order collapsed quickly, finding themselves at 9/3 in just 2.1 overs. Debutant Kamindu Mendis and Heinrich Klaasen showed glimpses of promise but were dismissed before they could mount any significant challenge. This marked SRH's third consecutive defeat and the second straight game where their batting faltered.
Aaron further commented on SRH’s disappointing performance, stating, "This is when doubts start to arise in a team, but they need to trust themselves for a few more matches. Currently, they aren’t accurately assessing the conditions or the match situation."
"When they lost three early wickets, they should have regrouped, just like Raghuvanshi and Ajinkya Rahane did for KKR to establish a 200-run total. However, SRH failed to do so. Credit must be given to Vaibhav Arora - his three crucial wickets, especially those two early breakthroughs, were invaluable," he added.
This victory propelled KKR to the fifth position in the points table while SRH fell to the last place.
