Greater Noida, Aug 12 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Vibhu Tyagi has claimed victory at the Deaflympics Selection Trials 2025, finishing in first place among male competitors after two challenging rounds of golf at the Jaypee Greens Golf Course. With a cumulative score of 168 (24 over par) over two days, Tyagi topped the leaderboard in tough conditions characterized by heat, humidity, and strong winds.
The selection trials were organized by the All India Sports Council of the Deaf (AISCD) with the support of the Indian Golf Union. The event featured six determined athletes, including a female competitor, reflecting the increasing inclusivity in Indian sports for the hearing-impaired community.
Harsh Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Jastar Singh Billing from Chandigarh secured the second and third positions, respectively. These trials were essential in determining India’s golfing team for the Deaflympics 2025, scheduled to occur in Tokyo later this year.
The proceedings commenced with a warm reception from IGU Treasurer Sanjeev Rattan, who, along with AISCD Chairman Mohinder Singh, motivated the participants. Other notable figures in attendance were project manager Somesh Sharma and technical director (badminton) Smt Sonu Anand Sharma.
“The selection trials were carried out in a fair and transparent manner. Despite the limited number of participants, the competition was intense, and the athletes showcased consistent performances throughout both rounds. I extend my gratitude to the Indian Golf Union for their support. I also wish the best for the winners and all other participants. As our Prime Minister Narendra Modi states, ‘Jo khele, who khile’, these exceptional athletes are fortunate to have the chance to represent our nation at the highest level,” expressed AISCD Chairman Mohinder Singh.
Regrettably, one participant, Ishant S. Shikare, was disqualified after Round 1 due to a violation of Rule 3.3b of the 2023 Rules of Golf. The tournament committee, following a thorough review, determined this action was necessary to uphold fairness and integrity in the selection process.
