New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) A resolute Yuvraj Sandhu, bouncing back from a painful runner-up finish in Jaipur last week, showcased his prowess with a final round of six-under 66, clinching a commanding eight-shot victory at the INR 2 crore Vishwa Samudra Open 2025 presented by Kapil Dev at the esteemed Delhi Golf Club (DGC).
The Chandigarh resident Yuvraj (73-69-66-66), who delivered another bogey-free 66, finished with a total score of 14-under 274 over the week. By doing so, Sandhu earned the winner’s cheque of INR 30 lakh, establishing an unassailable lead in the PGTI Ranking, bringing his season earnings to INR 1,61,67,100.
The 28-year-old Yuvraj subsequently emerged as the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit champion, securing his spot on the DP World Tour for the upcoming year.
Sandhu’s remarkable sixth victory of the season enabled him to equal the PGTI record for the most titles in a season, set by Manu Gandas in 2022. Additionally, Yuvraj matched the record for the lowest winning total at DGC (14-under 274) previously established by Viraj Madappa in 2021.
N Thangaraja (73-66-75-68) from Sri Lanka finished as a distant runner-up at six-under 282 after his final round of 68. Thangaraja earned the runners-up cheque of INR 20 lakh, climbing two spots to second place in the PGTI Ranking, with his season earnings totaling INR 1,08,57,488.
Akshay Sharma (five-under 283), Manu Gandas (three-under 285), and Rashid Khan (two-under 286) rounded out the top five in third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.
Starting the day with a one-shot lead, Yuvraj quickly surged ahead with birdies on the first two holes, executing a brilliant recovery from the bunker and sinking a 12-foot putt. He continued to add four more birdies, confidently advancing to his 15th career title while the rest of the competitors struggled to keep up with him.
Yuvraj Sandhu, who has achieved 13 top-10 finishes this season, including three runner-up positions, remarked, “It’s still hard to believe that I have clinched the PGTI Order of Merit title and secured my place on the DP World Tour. I think it will only truly hit me when I tee-off at the DP World Tour. I’m incredibly excited about competing in Europe.
“To win my sixth title of the year and at DGC for the first time is particularly meaningful. DGC is renowned as the home of Indian golf where I grew up admiring my golfing idols winning championships. Winning here was a dream I always aspired to achieve.
“I took my recent narrow misses and disappointments as valuable lessons and didn’t let them weigh me down. I believe I demonstrated great determination to rebound strongly after my close runner-up finishes that felt like victories slipping away. I went back to the basics to analyze my performances. This week, thanks to clearer communication with my caddie, we made better decisions on the course.
“Choosing to play exclusively on the PGTI this year, while sacrificing my Asian Tour card, was a gamble that paid off. I was laser-focused on achieving the top spot in the PGTI Ranking and securing my place on the DP World Tour. All my patience and hard work have finally borne fruit.
“I owe a tremendous thanks to my support team, including my coach and fitter Gurbaaz Mann, trainer Lavish, physios Gaurav and Ravinder, and mental coach Rabiya.
