Melbourne, June 18 (NationPress) The Melbourne Renegades have announced that their championship-winning coach, Simon Helmot, has extended his contract for another three years after leading the team to victory in the Women’s BBL last season. The Big Bash League revealed this news on Wednesday.
“Under Helmot’s guidance, the Renegades played a fearless brand of cricket, achieving ultimate success in his fourth year as head coach. He will remain with the team until at least the conclusion of WBBL13,” the Melbourne Renegades stated.
Helmot brings extensive coaching experience from both Australia and abroad, including positions in the IPL, CPL, and ILT. Previously, he led the men’s program of the Renegades from BBL 1 to BBL 4, and returned in 2020 to serve as an assistant coach for both squads before taking charge of the WBBL team.
“Last season was exceptionally meaningful for our players and coaching staff, and I’m excited to continue as head coach. Securing a title is a challenging feat, making my experience with this group even more special. Under the outstanding guidance of our General Manager, James Rosengarten, and our captain, Sophie Molineux, what we accomplished was incredibly fulfilling,” Helmot expressed.
“We have a fantastic core of players who are deeply committed to the club and eager to achieve further success. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead,” he added.
The Melbourne Renegades have also appointed Rob Cassell as the BBL Assistant and Bowling Coach. Cassell, who joined Cricket Victoria as the Senior Assistant to the men’s team in May after three years with Tasmania, will enhance Cam White’s coaching team as they prepare for the new BBL season. He will collaborate with a talented bowling unit recently strengthened by the additions of Jason Behrendorff and Brendan Doggett.
The Renegades are in the process of finalizing their rosters for WBBL 11 and BBL 15 as clubs prepare for Thursday’s Big Bash Overseas Player Draft.
