New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) After India completed a commanding 2-0 Test series victory against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, captain Shubman Gill conveyed his enthusiasm regarding the re-entry of experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli into the ODI setup ahead of the forthcoming series in Australia.
The veteran pair, who have stepped back from T20I and Test formats, are set to feature in the ODI series—the only international format they are currently participating in—starting on October 19 in Perth. India is lined up for three ODIs and five T20Is as part of their limited-overs tour in Australia.
“We have been performing some of the finest ODI cricket over the last two to three years, and our approach remains unchanged. The core team remains intact. Therefore, I’m thrilled to head out and compete in Australia,” Gill stated on JioHiotstar.
The Indian captain elaborated on the expectations from Rohit and Kohli, noting, “They have represented India for the last 10–15 years and have been pivotal in securing victories for us. The wealth of experience they bring is invaluable for any captain or team. We are eagerly anticipating their contributions. We hope they can work their magic.”
Both Rohit and Kohli will play under Gill’s captaincy for the first time, after the Champions Trophy-winning captain was not designated as skipper for the Australia ODI series.
Gill also addressed the challenge of adapting to various formats amid a dense schedule. India just finished the Asia Cup before entering the Test series, a transition that required swift mental and technical shifts.
“Transitioning from the Asia Cup to this Test series was quite rapid. We completed the Asia Cup, and within a couple of days, we were engaged in a Test match. That was a new experience for me. However, I think reverting to the fundamentals of each format is essential. When switching formats, understanding the basics and foundation of that format is crucial, which I always strive to remember, and I believe it serves me well,” he mentioned.
