Patna, Oct 14 (NationPress) As political parties in Bihar focus on finalizing seat-sharing agreements and distributing election symbols, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed that there have been no appeals concerning the addition or removal of names from the electoral rolls throughout the state.
In a formal statement released by the Commission, the ECI noted, “No appeal has been received by the District Magistrate under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act until October 14, 2025, regarding the inclusion and exclusion of names in the electoral roll by the Electoral Registration Officer across all 243 Assembly Constituencies during the Special Intensive Revision Drive, 2025, in Bihar.”
This announcement follows criticism from various opposition figures — including Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Dipankar Bhattacharya, Mukesh Sahani, and others — who have expressed concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls initiated by the Commission earlier this year.
The SIR initiative, which commenced on July 1, 2025, was designed to ensure the accuracy of the voter rolls by incorporating legitimate voters while eliminating duplicate, deceased, permanently relocated, or otherwise ineligible entries.
This task was executed in two phases and concluded by September 30.
The Enumeration Phase occurred from July 1 to July 31, with the Draft Electoral Roll for all 243 Assembly constituencies published on August 1.
The Final Electoral Roll was made public on September 30, serving as the foundation for the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
According to the finalized voter list, 7.42 crore voters are set to participate in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
In the draft list released on August 1, there were 7.24 crore voters. The revision process added 21.53 lakh new voters via Form 6 (the official inclusion form).
Additionally, 3.66 lakh names were removed after being deemed ineligible during the review.
Earlier, in June 2025, Bihar had 7.89 crore registered voters.
Following the SIR exercise, roughly 68 lakh names were deleted for reasons including death, migration, or duplication.
