Lahore, March 6 (NationPress) Following New Zealand's victory over South Africa, premier batsman Kane Williamson acknowledged that the team led by Rohit Sharma possesses clear strategies for their game at the Dubai International Stadium, where they will face off in the 2025 Champions Trophy final on Sunday.

New Zealand triumphed over South Africa by 50 runs in Lahore, earning their spot to face India for the second time in the tournament on Sunday. The previous encounter between India and New Zealand in a Champions Trophy final occurred in 2000 in Nairobi, where the Blackcaps claimed victory.

“Having played there multiple times, there's a clear understanding of how they plan to play. It's similar to our experience here after several matches at this venue, and that’s inherent in cricket,” stated Williamson after the match at the Gaddafi Stadium.

“We are not overly focused on how they operate; instead, our attention is on our own style of play while considering the opposition. It’s crucial to be strategic as we head into the final,” Williamson remarked.

In the Group A match in Dubai last week, New Zealand fell to India by 44 runs, with Williamson emerging as the top scorer with a commendable 81. This experience gives him insights into the slower conditions present at the venue. “It’s just how it is (given that India plays all their matches in Dubai). Our concentration is on the upcoming game, the match location, and the opponents—all of which are essential factors,” he added.

“Conditions differ, so it’s vital to extract positives and maintain clarity in our approach leading up to the final in two or three days. It’s part of the game, and we are eagerly anticipating the final,” Williamson concluded.

Williamson scored 102 off 94 balls against South Africa, marking his 15th century in this format, and he formed a partnership of 164 runs off 154 balls for the second wicket with Rachin Ravindra, who also excelled with a score of 108 off 101 balls, achieving his fifth century in this format and second in the competition.

“Batting with (Ravindra) is always a joy … he’s an exceptionally talented player. We missed him during his brief injury period, but he returned after a couple of weeks and is playing beautifully. Watching him is rewarding. He prioritizes the team and plays with freedom.”

“While batting together, we faced several challenging spells, but we supported each other and kept focused on the task at hand,” he concluded.
