This includes the creation of Khelo India Centres, multifunctional indoor arenas, national-standard stadiums, and specialized training academies aimed at fostering a variety of sports disciplines throughout the state.
During the inauguration of the 69th National School Games 2025 (Under-17 Boys and Girls - Boxing) at the Khelo India Indoor Stadium in Itanagar, the Chief Minister stated that the government is also providing financial incentives, job opportunities, and technical assistance to aspiring athletes to facilitate their development.
This landmark event signifies the first time Arunachal Pradesh has hosted a National School Games competition in the 71-year history of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), Khandu remarked.
He expressed great pride in this achievement, describing it as a symbol of the state’s increasing confidence and capability to host significant national events.
“This occasion is more than just an event; it is a source of pride for Arunachal Pradesh as we align with India’s rich legacy of school sports under the banner of the SGFI,” Khandu stated.
He pointed out that the SGFI, founded in 1954, has played a vital role in nurturing young sporting talent in India and laying the groundwork for many national and international athletes.
Since becoming affiliated with SGFI in 2008-09, Arunachal Pradesh has made remarkable strides in enhancing school-level sports.
“Over the past decade, our young competitors have shone in several disciplines including Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Boxing, and Weightlifting, showcasing that our youth are some of the finest in the country,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
Khandu expressed his sincere gratitude to the School Games Federation of India, the Department of Secondary Education, and all the organizing entities for their joint efforts in making this event a reality.
He also praised the local organizing committee, coaches, officials, and volunteers for their unwavering dedication in preparing for this prestigious championship.
Reinforcing the government’s strong commitment to sports and youth empowerment, Khandu stated, “For us, sports transcend mere competition; it embodies character development, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These virtues are crucial in shaping not only exceptional athletes but also outstanding citizens.”
The Chief Minister encouraged young athletes taking part in the event to engage with integrity, fairness, and enthusiasm.
“You are competing not just for medals but for your aspirations. Win gracefully, lose honorably, and always keep learning,” he advised the athletes.
Khandu underscored that hosting the 69th National School Games in Itanagar is a testament to the state’s vision of transforming Arunachal Pradesh into a center of sporting excellence in the Northeast, contributing to India’s broader success in sports.
